At the Zoo...In the Drive Thru
 Grant's Zebra, powerful equine
from Africa. This graceful herd is always on the watch for predators when
they have young foals nearby. Grazing till their hearts content, zebras do
fantastically in the summer heat. Used to the hot days in the desert, you
can find the zebras sunning even on the hottest of days.

 Addax
Antelope,
Extinct in the wild and reproducing at the Promised Land ZOO!
We have two genetically diverse breeding groups of these
critically endangered species.
Dromedary Camels,
are almost too smart for
their own good! Barney is always anxious to eat
all the feed that you have and always good for a camel race or two!
Barney is often famed for "talking" to the guests and trying to convince them to
hand over more feed.
 Red Kangaroos,
we have a great mob that frequently has joeys in the pouch. Watch the
males box or see them lounging in the sun.
 Ring-tailed
Lemurs,
a critically
endangered species from the island of Madagascar. These highly-social
primates love to watch the humans as the begin their way through the walk-thru
area. This troop has their babies at the end of April and can give birth
to twins! It's a good thing that they are excellent mothers.
Aoudad, males are famous for having long, flowing "aprons"
of fur that stretch from head to toe. Both the males and females have
large thick horns. These animals are extremely agile and excellent
jumpers. "Belle" a long-time resident of the Promised Land will follow
along side you as you make your way through the walk-thru area. These
animals frequently twin and have their babies around Easter.
Pot-bellied Pigs, We have several pot-bellied
pigs in the drive-thru area in a few different colors red with black spots, white
with black spots and all black. These pigs are lazy and can be found
lounging in the sun or in a bit of mud.
Reeves
Muntjac,
One of the smallest deer species in the world. Adults only weigh 20
pounds! Females give birth to a single fawn at any time of the year.
They are most active at dawn and dusk and love to run and play. Males
produce spike antlers annually.
American Bison, once almost hunted into extinction, the
American Bison or Buffalo is a graceful addition to the Promised Land.
Calves are typically born around Memorial Day and will benefit from the
protection of the herd. If trouble arises, you can count on the bison
circling around the young.
Scimitar-horned Oryx, a Critically
Endangered Species from the African continent. These truly magnificent
antelope feature horns that can attain a length of 6 feet. In the 1990's
there were fewer than 1200 individuals. Here at the Promised Land we
produce several calves annually and are helping stabilize the population.
Nilgai Antelope, these Indian Antelope will frequently have
twins born in the end of August. Males, when sexually mature will
experience a "sexually dimorphic" change where they will actually get darker in
color which is why the Nilgai are also known as the "Blue Bull"
Eland
Antelope- the largest of all the antelope species in the world. These
huge antelope can jump six feet in the air from a standstill...an amazing feet
for such a massive creature!
Fallow Deer, European in origin, these spotted-for-life
cervides come in three colors; spotted, chocolate, and white. Come see the
bucks in rut in the Fall and the babies in May and June.
American Elk, large and regal, the Elk can be heard "bugleing"
for miles around in the middle of October. Come and see our phenomenal 8x8
buck! Truly a site to behold.
Emu, these silly looking birds are the ultimate opportunist.
Be careful not to let them in your window or you will find yourself face-to-face
with one silly looking creature.
And much, much
more!!!
